journey through the bible

One of the first things we learn in the DTS is the YWAM motto upon which our mission is founded: “To know God and to make Him known.” Yet one cannot possibly claim to know God if he/she does not even know His Word. So in the DBS we make the Bible the student’s companion for life – in Spirit and in Truth! Discover the unified story of the Bible, be discipled and fall in love with the Author of the Bible.

In this 12-week introduction to the Bible, you will be given an overview of “God’s story” and will discover the purposes of God in it. You will read the entire Bible, observe the chronology of biblical events, better understand each book in its historical context, understand the harmony between the books, be able to recognize the different genres of literature, and learn the major themes found in each of the 66 books. You will also learn the foundational truths of Christianity by going directly to the source.

DBS is like a sequel to the DTS. Students continue the discipleship process begun in the DTS by addressing a variety of topics illuminated in the Scriptures, by building godly character and developing a lifelong hunger and love for the Word. This will not only be accomplished in the classroom, but also outside the classroom, through one-on-ones, small groups, plus evangelism and mercy ministry in the community. As a DBS graduate you will be able to share your faith more confidently with those who are seeking truth (evangelism) and explain the Word of God more accurately to those who’ve already come to faith (discipleship).

know THE word

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 – NIV

We want students to be able to re-tell the story of the Bible (major events), show they have received new revelation about who God is (God’s character and nature) and be able to explain the gospel, the Good News that has come to man through the Scriptures (God’s Redemptive Plan). Our heart is for students to continue to grow in spiritual hunger so that the Word of God does not become dry or just an obligation to be fulfilled. With an emphasis on how to practically live out what is being learned. Our heart is for students to walk away confidently knowing the story of the Bible and how to continue to go deeper.
